Miss Taylor

Below is a picture of my Religious Education teacher, Miss Taylor, who was recently featured in the local Kent newspaper. She has taught me since I began year 7 at my secondary school, and continued to teach me at my current year, 11, until she received the opportunity to begin writing a book based on Christian Teaching and how 'The Simpsons' can become part of it. This has been a wish of hers for a long time, and finally she has received the recognition she deserves. Miss Taylor in my opinion is one of the nicest teachers I've met, and will always be known for her tricky, philosophical register questions. Her classroom is one of the most colourful, spiritual rooms within the school. Among the Simpsons memorabilia, paintings and religious symbols, there's usually candles and incense burning together with her calming music! If you want to be indulged in peaceful, harmonious surroundings, her room is a great place to learn and relax!

Drawing Inspiration From Religion
A teacher from Canterbury's Chaucer Technology School is pioneering the teaching of religion using The Simpsons cartoon.

Tessa Taylor has been awarded a felowship to study at St Mary's College in Durham for the Autumn term.

Her project will be to devise a series of lessons based on

characters and situations from The Simpsons.

Mrs Taylor who lives in Wincheap, said: "I have drawn on Matt Groening's useful gift of ironyand satire to highlight strange attitudes and traditional thinking.

The appeal of the Simpsons cuts across the age gap, the ability gap and the social gap.

Many teachers use the yellow family from Springfield to present ideas on religion.  It is crazy to ignore such icons as Lisa, Homer, Marge, Bart and Maggie."

Chaucer assistant head Iain Sutherland praised Mrs Taylor, saying: "Pupils who leave the school and return for a visit always seek out Tessa to let her know how they are getting on.
